Tribalism

Ants, millions and millions of ants, each individual belonging to a nest, and each nest belongs to a specific type of species. Same goes to tribalism. Tribalism is where people with the same thoughts and principles live together in a social organization called tribes. Same as ants, these people are strongly ethnical and extremely loyal to their tribes, even if it means sacrificing their lives.
Kenya is a country where majority of its nations are involved in tribalism. Although the history of tribalism in Kenya couldn’t be tracked down to the ancient times, which suggests that Kenya is quite new to tribalism, there are many conflicts happening between the tribes, where people from different tribes are always insulting and criticizing each other due to their different thoughts and mindsets influenced by their respective tribes. In some occasions, these small actions will lead to big brutal wars which involve fighting and killing. For instance, in the year 2007, Kenya had suffered more than 1200 casualties in a war which lasted a month long, triggered by the re-election of the president, causing the supporting tribe to be in war with the opposing tribe. Houses were burned down, people were killed, and it was a total chaos.
A war between you yourself might be good for thoughts on decision-making, but however, in the scale of a nation, it is not. Kenya used to be in harmony; however this generation of the nation is not able to be united due to political issues where the government is very hard to be chosen as everyone is fighting to control the state. It will not make much difference in politics due to the hatred of one another’s tribes, including the governments. Also, in order to hold an election for the government, the country must be prepared to give the prices and to face the consequences as tribes will disagree with one another, with everyone suggesting that their tribe leader should lead the country, triggering a lot of conflicts and in serious situations, war.
Tribalism can also be judge as a burden in the human society. It had manipulated the minds of its entire group, leading them to the loss of their humanities and moral values. Competitions between the tribes and loyalty had caused the people to doing actions from insulting to killing each other, those who are not loyal to the tribe or denies to perform traditional rituals or actions which doesn’t make sense will result to the extermination from the tribe, sometimes even with violence.
Besides, loyalty in tribalism is just an excuse for “forcing” its people to perform actions which are irrelevant and maybe deadly to themselves and others. They are forced to perform dangerous rituals and to fight others where it threatens life. It is considered as a test of loyalty however, the theory of loyalty is misunderstood by the tribes where loyalty is earned, not forced.
People in the tribe can argue tribalism can be a driving force of the people, giving them a purpose in their lives, dedicating and servicing the tribe, giving them the sense of nationhood and common good, influencing and expanding the tribe by gathering more peoples. Tribalism is indeed a driving force for the people, but where? It acts as a driving force for people to do bad things, a force which leads people into chaos and giving them the excuse on blaming the fault on others, especially people who do not agree with them. Moreover, tribalism does not give the sense of nationhood to its people as it is obvious to where there is no presence of unity in the country.
Also, tribalism states that they provide a non-hierarchical environment to the people, escaping the hierarchical cities of the modern world. People live in happiness, with all the rights being distributed equally among the tribes, sharing everything they have or found. The argument is invalid as a non-hierarchical environment is the best opportunity for corruption. The human nature is not designed to live in a non-hierarchical environment due to the natural behavior of humans such as greed or envy. Even in a non-hierarchical environment, there will sure be natural competition between one another, competing with one another.
Describe as the cancer of a country, tribalism is silently destroying the infrastructure of it, slowing down and holding back every new improvement, development, or change. The case under this is caused by the loyalty of the tribe members to their cultures and traditions, where they ignore and disapprove with any new changes which interfere with their traditional methods or thoughts. This is why even with technology provided to them, they will still prefer using the traditional methods due to close-minded believes.

The ants are very hardworking groups where they will attack other species to increase survival or to get advantages from them such as slavery. However, we are humans and not insects. In conclusion, tribalism is bringing the world disadvantages more than advantages. We humans are social and are able to live together as a world. Changes are essential for the advancement of humans and there must be a change in mindsets in tribalism or they will be eliminated from the world some days due to the technological fallback.

Creative Short Story Writing

Message:
Self-activation set on 3013/4/5: Activated
Subject: our past, our mistakes, your future_

Ever since the big day, the day when the King had approved on the initiation of the neurotic chip implantation project, every newborn baby was embedded with a chip containing all known information of mankind, with its performance solely depending on the ability of the child’s brain to process and absorb it. Instantly, a portion of humanity became tremendously smarter as majority of the young kids managed to absorb all the information before the age of 10.
But then, there were the rebellions, strongly standing their grounds on the point of view of the human nature, on how education should be carried out by nature. There was war back then- they won, parting the internationalized world into two. Generations by generations, the gap between us had distanced. By the calculation and analysis of the statistics, with the equation of [(9dx-3ex-294j) 34z2/3Z.f(x)], our rate of development had formed the great Hyperion, leaving the rebellions far behind in the slum.
Lurking through the peaceful streets, a father and his little boy solving higher-level non-Euclidean geometrics together, the little boy smiling broadly at his father to his victory for completing the complex equation before his father, the sound of processed iridium dropping into the storage chamber accompanied by the continuous tapping of buttons, the fingers of the worker currently in charge flying all over the control panel, the whole scenery was an artwork, the uniqueness of Hyperion.
Right in the middle of the street, there sat a boy playing with his toy car. Stuck out like an ink blot on an artwork, pushing the car back and fro while staring blankly into the thin air with his wide eyes, his presence was a disgrace to the image of the country, the country of the elites, judging by his inability to master such simple concepts of life unlike his other insolent brain development partners, including the little boy who was playing with his father a moment ago.
Xenon, the boy, was smaller in size than anyone else of his age. As he grew up, he became more and more of a threat to this country. Naughty and filled with mischief, he destroyed the algorithm of the country by his actions, from stealing food when he was 15, running over supply stations while escaping from the drones, hiding in small places unreachable to the drone to smuggling our country’s valuable currency when he was an adult.
When he was finally arrested, he was taken to the King for judgment as we had no idea of what to do with him due to the reason that it had never happened before. After the oral debates were made between the King and the defendant, in result to his low qualifications in the examinations and his absurd behavior, he had been exiled from Hyperion under the category of ineffectual contribution to the country.
While escorting him out of the walls of the city, I had witnessed an event that surprised me. Subject Xenon had displayed a behavior that I had never seen before. He had suddenly talked to the guards in a loud voice at the edge of the door before being an official outcast while displaying excessive tensing of facial muscles that expresses certain emotions that are unknown to us Hyperions.
The equilibrium in the infrastructure of the country had been restored, and all regained order and peace. I never expected to see Xenon again as I question his presence on this world in the harsh environment outside the walls where there was no news of him from our observation stands too.
The code red was triggered after a few years. In accompaniment of the security alarms blaring in the background, the town hall echoed with a repetitive mechanical voice of “Sending out all defensive drones”. All important authorities are escorted to observational safe house to ensure our safety, including me. With our fear, we saw the drones, going down one by one in large fumes of black smoke followed by deafening booms.
Through the computed stimulation carried out by the computer, by the forecast of us being defeated, drones are set to retreat mode, flying away from the battlefield. Out of the black smokes, there were silhouettes of people, walking towards the door. As they advanced towards us, we can see that they are holding firearms that have the properties of Hyperion technology but however, not present in our technology and taking the lead, a familiar small, shrouded guy with an oversized firearm, Xenon.
With a few thunderous bangs against the safe house door, “We finally met again”, I said to him, “Kill me for revenge”. One of his fellow comrades took a step out and pointed his weapon at me, but was stopped by Xenon.
“I had come with peace and no intention of violence to make my point”
Stammering, I took up the courage to ask him,
“How… did you manage to create such weapons with technology concepts so similar to ours, providing the fact that we have no weapon technology?”
When he replied, that was when all became cleared- “I was never implanted with a chip, I had followed up with you by the natural form of education, understanding and getting concepts and also learning how to generate new applications from the learnt concepts.”
I was shocked, why didn’t I think of that? He looked at me as if he knew what I was thinking of, “It is because you are programmed not to! To achieve eternal peace and order, there was totally no input of the knowledge of violence in your chip database, moreover the understanding of the emotion anger.” Immediately, the atmosphere became silent and serious, with the Hyperions reflecting on themselves.
The outbreak of the silence was caused by a firm and calm order tone. The King, his majesty who remained silent for all these times, had finally placed down an order. “We need to reset.”
In his last speech, he mentioned that our dependence on technology had overwhelmed our natural concept of life. We are slowly being manipulated into computed programs with only one purpose without our own strings of thoughts due to the influence, following a sole predefined system, closing the definition of humans to the term “Living Dead”.
This message is set out as a warning to our kind in the future; there are some laws of nature that can’t be replaced by technology as we are the ones who created technology.
Hence, never ever use technology to replace the time and efforts of human in learning something new. By reset, all technology will be erased except for this message, leaving only the humans at their basic life forms, to redevelop from scratch, in a new direction. Good luck, fellow descendants.

Imagine, John Lennon Musical Analysis

History of John Lennon
John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, England while the World War II was going on. His father, Arthur Lennon, was a merchant seaman who had to travel a lot thus; there were very little interactions between the father and son.
Since John’s parents had divorced due to an affair, John had been living in his aunt, Mimi. Although his mother, Julia, remarried after sometime, she still visits John frequently, teaching John how to play the piano and guitar at the same time, buying him his first guitar. Tragically, John was shattered when he heard the news regarding to the death of his mother after being struck down by a car driven by a drunken police officer on July, 1958.
In his early school years, John was a pain to the headmaster as he was a prankster and had always enjoyed getting into trouble or creating them. He was sent to an art school for college by the headmaster thinking that he had artistic talents despite of his inability to perform well in his academics.
He attended the Liverpool College of Art and was inspired by Elvis Presley’s rock music to form his first own band called the “Quarry Men”.  He met Paul McCartney at a church event and invited him to join his band, with the addition of George Harrison, Stu Sutcliffe, and Pete Best later on.
By time, the group underwent several name changes and losses of original band members Stu Sutcliffe and Pete Best where Stu died of a brain tumor and Pete Best, the drummer in the band, being replaced by Ringo Star, also known as Richard Starkey.  As a final decision, they ended up with the band name called “The Beatles” with its four members and went around performing in bars and clubs.
During his regularly based performance in Cavern Club, the band was discovered by Brian Epstein in 1961, which cleaned up the group by replacing their black leather jackets with suits and also securing a contract with the EMI with him as a manager and George Martin as the producer. The group released their first single, “Love Me Do” in October 1962 which tops the British Hot Chart at the 17th.
They gradually became more and more popular album by album, eventually breaking out big in America and having their first world tour after their movie, “A Hard Day’s Night” in 1964. However, they had to stop touring in 1966 due to their lives being in danger after their declaration of themselves for being even popular than Jesus, triggering minor uproars and the bon firing of Beatles albums in whole.  This was when John is introduced to drugs by Bob Dylan.
In 1967, Epstein passed away due to the overdose of sleeping pills, which was a very big impact to the group, who succumbed under the leadership of McCartney and filmed another tour- “Magical Mystery Tour”, which failed too.
John got re-married with Yoko Ono, an artist whom he met in an exhibition after divorcing with his former wife Cynthia Powell in 1968, ending their 6 years of marriage. Together they recorded a single under the name of The Plastic Ono Band, “Give Peace a Chance”, which was widely welcomed by pacifists.
The couple’s partnership had further affected the group which had disagreements and conflicts regarding to business deals and contracts within the Beatles Company. In the end, the group broke up officially in 1971 where John and his wife moved to New York to recover from the event.
He released his solo album similar to primal scream therapy followed “Imagine”, which shook the world, it was his most successful track among all of John’s efforts, gaining the title of the third song of the all-time bests from the Rolling-Stones magazine.
When his son Sean, being born on the same day as John’s 35th birthday, he decided to leave his singing carrier in order to take care of Sean. Five years later, he re-entered the musical industry with the album “Starting Over”. Sadly, he was assassinated by an unhinged fan a few weeks after its release in his apartment complex.  On 8 December 1980, at the age of 40, the living legend left us of his unfortunate death in Roosevelt Hospital.

Imagine- Song Analysis
“Imagine” is composed by English musician John Lennon which was released on the May of 1971. It was his most successful track among all of his efforts. It had peaked in the top UK song charts for 5 years, shooting up to number one after his assassination during 1980 and made its mark in history, with the song well-known to generations after generations, an immortal piece.
The song, in overall, is relatively simple. However, with the song being simple, it gives the listener a feel of the uplifting of the inner strength, where the simplicity of the song plays a very big role to fulfill this as it makes the song very catchy and easy to be deciphered by the mind, allowing us to understand how the singer feels through the melody of the song.
Melodic wise, the song has a narrow range in majority throughout the music, occasionally getting wider in range during the progression from the verse to the bridge. The rising of pitches sporadically throughout the piece catches the listeners’ attention, allowing them to drift off in their own thoughts towards the lyrics again while pulling them back preventing them getting too far away.
Due to its simplicity, harmony is present only in the background music through chords of C, F, G and D, where the verse harmony is stable with only the change of chord at every fourth beat and present in a simple structure of:
Intro and Verse:
C///F///C///F,
C///F///C///F,
Am///Dm///G///G7
And Chorus:
F///G///C///E7///,
 F///G///C///E7///,
F///G///C///E7///,
F///G///C///C///
The music rhythm has a slow beat however accompanied by the introduction of an uprising drum beat to create a balance of tempo in the song. Not only that, but the singer sings the song with an unsteady speed in the lyrics whilst maintaining within the beat of the song. He gives the listener time to absorb the meaning of the lyrics and to process it, to give you enough time to ask yourself questions while he answers you with his lyrics after that.
As mentioned before, the song has a simple structure where instead of complex dynamics found in most of the songs which displays an obvious change from piano to forte and to piano again every bar, Imagine is a piece where the singer maintains a fixed loudness in majority part of the song, only increasing his volume slightly at the chorus, highlighting the message and purpose of the musical piece.
With the song related to the singer grieving about imperfection of the world, while picturing his perfect world, the song displays sadness in it thus having a minor tonality. But then again, as observed, the song contains major chords too as it hints the happiness the singer obtained while seeing his perfect world. Therefore, a mixture of minor tonality and major tonality is used.
A monophony texture is used where there is only one melodic line, in terms of no harmony accompaniment while the singer is singing. It gives the listener a feeling that the singer is talking directly to them through the song. Being touched up by the presence of echo in Imagine, it allows the listener to hallucinate, imaging the perfect world stated in the lyrics.
The song follows a modified strophic in terms of forms. The melody of the verses and chorus are repeated throughout the song however accompanied by only slight melody changes to catch the listener’s attention. The simple repetitive structure of the song conveys the message in a clear way as the message is repeated several times during the song.
There are many things that can happen in our minds that cannot happen in the real world. Hence, stating the meaning of the song name “Imagine”. The song’s focuses on the theme of peacefulness of the world, talking about the problems about the world “today” then projecting an ideal world in the listener’s mind. It was further emphasized by the line “I hope someday you’ll join us- And the world will live as one”, where its purpose is to create awareness of the world issues, asking for a better change.
The lyrics consist of 5 powerful stanzas, with every verse beginning with the word “imagine”, stating a perfect scene without the problem of the issue, while telling the listener the solution to it through their own guilt.
The starting lines of the verse are:
1.       Imagine there’s no Heaven - It’s easy if you try,
2.       Imagine there’s no countries- It isn’t hard to do,
3.       Imagine there’s no possessions – I wonder if you can
It questions the presence of Heaven, later stating that it is easy to picture it in mind because it is less related to reality. Next, he says that it is a little hard to imagine a world with no country, as it focuses on the responsibility of the people in account to the whole country. Alas, he asks the listener to imagine a world with no possession, which he highly doubts we can as it is in the human nature for us to have our own selfish needs.

Moving on, the three verses are closed with a bridge summing up everything mentioned in the previous stanzas, asserting the world moving in a whole, thus with their actions generating peace. The bridge of the song is:
Imagine all the people…
Living for today
Sharing all the world
Living life in peace
The climax of the song, the chorus, is the most important part in the song which states his point to those who are in objection to his song. He wrote the lyrics with no demands and instructions at all, just merely stating that he’s not alone, there are others who have the same mind-sets too, and he hopes someday the one who disagrees will join too.
The song was a great impact to the world. “Imagine” was released right in the middle of the Vietnam War, which acted as a source of motivation for the citizens of US to protest against the deaths of people caused by the war. The protestation was so great as the song was so widely used, it can be compared with the US national anthem, bringing fear to the anxious government who deported John. However, John was not discouraged. He continued creating songs about peace and was re-granted citizenship in the US after the war is over.
His death was news for millions. Phones were ringing all over the world, televisions interrupted programs to declare his tragic deaths, and the world was a standstill on that day, with all the people mourning and grieving for John.

Visual Basic and C++ Comparison Essay

Data are statistics obtained through the compilation of facts and factors, being stored into the computer through electric signals which are to be recorded by mechanical recording media in binary code. A program is a set of coded instructions used to compile and organize data, where it generates data by the facts and factors in accordance to the program, where these set of coded instructions are assembled via programming languages.
Programming languages are synthetic languages that are specifically designed for the purpose of interaction between the machine and the user, allowing the users to input algorithm and rules into the program in order to perform tasks. Over the generations, programming languages had advanced more and more in technology hence, enabling the programs to complete complex tasks with ease and also, loosening the dependency of the programs on human.  [1]
It all begun with binary code upon the invention of the first computer in the first generation of programming language. These codes are in the simplest form of computer language containing only the notations “1”’s and “0”’s. Machine language can be processed by the computer directly without any decoding. Followed by assembly language, it contains human readable symbols that are processed by an assembler that translates the notations into machine language. Although the notations used are hard to understand, the language is still easier to be mastered than machine language.
Third generation programming language, also known as procedural language, contains short series of words representing commands. Closer to human language, it makes high-level programming possible and easier.  Subsequently, fourth generation programming language is invented.  This programming language is goal-orientated as it only specifies in a very small pool of applications such as to access databases. The fifth generation programming language involves a visual or graphical interface for creating codes, also known as natural language. [2]
C++ comes from the third generation of programming languages with most of its terms like “string”, “int”, “cin” and “cout” similar to human language. It is also often referred as a middle-level computer language, as it takes the features of the higher-level programming language such as the concept of data types, a set value or variable that can be stored in the program temporarily, but maintains the control and flexibility of basic programming languages, by allowing the conversion of bulk codes into bits and bytes, and compact with a wide variety of operating system, in other words, making it portable. Being a structured language, it also allows a wide range of programming prospects, allowing easy prototyping as it enables the programmer to relate the program language to real-life situations with ease through the loose rule of the program language on the placement of statements in a code, supporting several loops construct too. [3]
However, the terms of programming language used in C++ are complex and requires a significant amount of time to be mastered as the programmer is required to memorize the sequences and the names of the commands. Moreover, C++ does not provide run-time checking on the code which makes it harder to identify errors in a code as the program develops. [4] [5]

Visual Basic is a fifth generation programming language created by Microsoft which contains a user interface although it is a further developed version of BASIC, a third generation programming language. It is an event-based program that manipulates or changes its flow accordingly to the list of happening events in such examples, mouse-clicks and key presses. With the simple coding and interactive programming interface of Visual Basic, it is easy to understand and master for beginners, at the same time allowing the professionals to develop complex programs by combining the simple codes. It promotes rapid application development by the exemption of the deciphering of complex terms while programming and with the help of project wizards that includes pre-set templates designed to fulfill the application in situations. [6] [7]
Thus, the simplicity of the Visual Basic programming language has caused it to have a large talent pool due to the easiness of it to be mastered, giving heavy competitions between the programmers. Besides, the usage of graphical interface takes up more amount of memory as it requires more amount of processing. Due to the program being designed by Microsoft, it also decreases its portability as it is only compatible with Windows OS. [7]
Despite of C++ and Visual Basic being developed through very different percepts, Microsoft had developed both programming language to be supported by the same .NET framework development platform, where they are assembled by the same intermediate language (IL), the compilers of the following languages.  [8]
In terms of language structure, both languages are developed in reference to the basic features and requirements of the same framework to increase their functionality so that they could be translated with one another through a simple syntax converter. In result, there is an equivalent substitute of commands that are present in C++ in VB. Both languages are similar to each other as both of them are products of the further developing of the third generation programming language.
Thus, having the same origins of the generations in programming language, C++ and Visual Basic do not come from the same origins of programming language, with BASIC for Visual Basic and C for C++ respectively. Consequently, both programming languages still have differences among one another.
C++ and Visual Basic falls under different generations after being modified from its original generation.  Visual Basic falls under the category of the fifth generation programming language due to its introduction of graphical user interface, as it allows the user to “draw” the program onto the interface while C++ still remains in the third generation programming language being only partially object orientated after its mere upgrade on classes and enhanced functions of C, remaining in the form of coding.
Likewise, C++ is a case-sensitive programming language where the commands are different with the usage of case-sensitive letters in the coding which does not comply with Visual Basic coding. For example, in Visual Basic, the meaning of the term “Example” and “example” are the same whereas in C++, “Example” and “example” represents two different variables.

Besides of that, they have different language features corresponding to different usage of keywords. For example, the introduction of loop in a program for Visual Basic requires the insertion of the statement:

For counter As Integer = 0 To final
'vb.net code
Next

While C++ requires the insertion of the code:

cout << n << ", ";
--n;

The coding in C++ is based more on notations and symbols, where the example coding brings out the meaning of printing the value of n, later on decreasing n by 1, compared to the easily understandable language of Visual Basic. It is also noted that C++ requires a semicolon “;” after each string of command as an indication to the computer for ending the command.

There are some difference of features too between C++ and VB.net where it unlike C++’s multi-platform compatible language, the single compatibility of programming language only on a single type of platform in VB.net provides the programing language a higher security. Similarly, Visual Basic provides run-time checking which identifies mistakes and errors in the coding while C++ does not. However, with C++’s wide range of compatibility, it enables the insertion of unsafe codes via unsafe keywords which enables the user to explore and discover new coding techniques.

C++ also supports the feature of multi-lined comments in the code while Visual Basic doesn’t, which means that C++ allows more information to be inserted into the coding with the ease of the programmer while Visual Basic has no features of this kind. [9]

Both of the programming language has its own pros and cons where there are some features that cannot be supported in the other programming language and vice versa. In the end, upon the comparison between C++ and Visual Basic, the decision of which is the better programming language could not be made as they fall in totally different categories of programming. C++ is specially designed for advanced programming such as the creation of video games while Visual Basic is created for the programming of programs containing user-interfaces such as Windows by matching the structure of the program through the user-interface present in VB itself.

In conclusion, instead of separating the programming languages into competing individuals, why not combine the both programming language together to achieve a higher goal? The cons of the programming language are overcome by one another. With the application of C++ in Visual Basic is allowed, providing flexibility at the same time, efficiency due to the swiftness of programming with the user-interface. Hence, these programming languages should be used as applicants in one another for the sake of development in further programming languages, aiming towards the goal of the collection of more data and for it to be more organized.

Is Black Box Killing Human Ingenuity?

This is a black box essay. You know that this essay was submitted, and it scored a full mark in the criterions A and B. The content of the essay is unknown, but however, it is assumed that the content is well written and fulfills the all parts of the criterion.

As a black box essay, it is written in reference to the black box theory, which implies to an object with unspecified internal workings, leaving the user only aware of the input and a predictable output, gained by experience of the previous tests conducted. [1] This term originated from the world of aviation, where most parts of the aircraft is painted black, in which the pilot is not required to understand how the components work, but just solely the input and output of the controls.

With the progressive development of technology and the efforts of redefining the term “mobility”, electrical components had become smaller and smaller since. One of the biggest influences all time is the invention of the integrated circuit, usually referred as IC. It is a microscopic array of electronic circuits embedded into different kinds of platforms regarding to its application. [2] Due to its microscopic structure, it is being considered as one of the line-replaceable units (LRU) as malfunctioning causes are so small that it is close to impossible to be identified furthermore being repaired.[3] If not labeled, electricians or physicians can only identify their purpose by testing them, applying the input in following to getting the output. With no confirmed facts, only making assumptions on its internal structure based on the results.

Moreover, the interaction between human and technological devices has also increased vigorously. Kids nowadays rely on gadgets such as iPods, computers and smart phones for entertainment. Although they do not understand the concepts of how they function, but they do know the outcome of a gesture or action they made on the device. Thus, the problem is that with the dealings of technology so common on life, especially in this generation, people usually take it for granted.[4] With utmost concern, will the black box use today death knell to human ingenuity by taking technology for granted and not understanding the components fully?

In my opinion, I disagree with the following statement. As human ingenuity emphasizes on the ability of humans to initiate changes, generating negative or positive impacts resulting to the reaction of others in all aspects [5], the black box phenomena actually encourages the development of more advanced technology, where scientists can focus on creating new innovations, with no needs to pay attention to the minor details such as the components of the existing technologies. For instance, inventors are allowed to reuse the invented chips to help with his new invention instead of delaying time making a new one, allowing him to focus more on the new important factors of the invention.

Not only that, but the black box enables the development of higher level technology as in having completely new theories and concepts by increasing the creativity of the people. [6] This is because the black box encourages one to assume of the content of the black box through creativity and at the same time, logistics. Having most of the people making their own individual assumptions, backing up their own points while further developing their own ideas, it frees them from the limits of education where they are allowed to think of their own concepts based on their own understandings instead of accepting the knowledge of what education has taught them.

It is said that yes, although the black box theory enables and boosts the performance on one’s thinking, however, the lacking of proper knowledge on the object prevents one from actually creating it as the requirement of knowledge cannot fulfill or cope with the creativeness, where the black box theory can prevent one from getting the correct information too, limiting human ingenuity. [6]

Education nowadays is also getting on hands. From sitr.com, statistics show that 59% of the people globally and 62% in the United States feel that their creativity is being depleted by the current education systems, hence decreasing human ingenuity.[7] The reason behind this is that the current education is spoon-feeding the students while forcing them to memorize the given information.  From small, the children’s mind will be influenced to the same way of views and perspective as everyone else, eliminating the plausible ideas that one might have thought of. [8]

However, the solution is to change the concept of people towards education and education itself. Through the researches and studies on psychology, a new type of education that uses the black box theory to boost creativity can be created, training children with their critical thinking through the development of their mindset, revealing the actual knowledge to them after asking them to state and back up their own opinions. With the help of psychology studies, it prevents the student’s self-esteem from being disrupted while boosting independence, where the students will be able to accentuate on their own points, slowly testing out ideas themselves.

This kind of education will stimulate behaviors of the students that benefit the development of technology and also human ingenuity in the future society. More new innovations will be found in the society due to the high level of inspiration in the psychological minds of the people, where evaluations are to be made hence causing technology to develop faster, leading to totally new concepts or even upgrades of the previous theory.

Overall, the black box does not death knell to human ingenuity but it enchants it. With the society encouraging the creation of new changes with new business opportunities, awards and prizes, humans will not stop initiating changes more to death knell in human ingenuity.[9] Likewise, the mysteriousness of the black box will generate more motivation by the triggering of curiousness in human behavior. Even if the content of the black box is not to be identified, it will actually further develop human ingenuity where it enables us to create a totally new concept that does not refer to the past creations of mankind. Throughout the journey of my personal project, I first have to thank my parents for giving me approval and support in carrying out the project.  I would also like to thank my supervisor for guiding and motivate me to the completion of this project. Last but not least, I would like to thank my friends, for sharing and exchanging of ideas and thoughts regarding to this personal project.

Personal Project Report
1.0          Introduction
Athlete’s foot, also known as ringworms, is a disease which causes scaling, flaking and the itchiness of affected areas [2], causing the feet to emit unpleasant smells and rots slowly. This bacterium requires a warm, wet environment such as inside a shoe to reproduce and survive.

Being a student and an active sports player, I have a foot stink problem due to the frequency of me wearing a sport shoe, fully isolating my foot from fresh air. This had caused sweat and heat to accumulate in my foot, promoting the growth of bacteria.

I had experienced humiliation due to my stinky foot, where I was criticized and insulted by others.  This motivated me to not just improve the condition of my own stinky foot, but also other people with athlete’s foot by creating a shoe to prevent and maintain the foot in a good condition. Imagine, if a little foot stink had caused such big reactions, what will an athlete’s foot patient undergo and feel?

1.1          Aim

The aim of my personal project is to create a new concept for a shoe to prevent and lighting the effect on people getting a smelly feet and athlete’s foot by mainly allowing ventilation in the shoe, avoiding moisture and heat to accumulate in it.

I would also like to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone, and achieve a better and higher result, hence making the world a better place, and the advancement of mankind.

1.2          Area of Interaction

As a student, I am eager to explore the realms of human ingenuity, understanding the process of creating a product by inventing and creating new concepts. It is interesting on how humans can initiate changes using their creativity and determinations, allowing transformation, evolution and the quality of life.

Not only that, I would like to experience and explore the art of interaction between humans- the ingenuity of communication which includes social skills, body language, mindsets and last of the least, language. By going to a new environment, I am required to grasp and master different languages to communicate with different people.

1.3          Planning of Action

I am planning to accomplish my project by visiting a shoe factory to make requests for help to provide me information about shoe-making and participation in the factory’s shoe- manufacturing process and alas completing my own designated shoe with their equipment. However, before that, I must get all my designs ready and be sure that I am aware of what I am doing.

1.4          My product

For my personal project, I will create a shoe which ventilates the airflow inside to prevent athlete’s foot. In my product, I had set certain specifications to acquire so that my product will fulfill the needs of the goal, and mistakes can be avoided. These specifications are:

Ventilation
·         Must have at least two functioning devices- one to extract air from the shoe and one to suck it in

Waterproof
·         Device must be waterproof/unreachable by water

Wiring
·         Wiring must be well protected and hidden

Battery
·         Battery can be replaced with ease

Budget
·         Shoe must fall in a price below RM50

Device
·         Device must not be in contact with foot
·         Device must be energy saving
·         Device must be small

User-friendly
·         Shoe must be simple and easy to use

Design
·         A shoe with reasonable thickness and height

2.0          Selecting Sources
Sources are the foundation of a good project, the core that drives the project forward. It provides and fulfills necessary information and requirements to finish a task as well as overcome obstacles in the progress. Hence, without sources of information, a project will not be heading anywhere.

Being a student establishing my own project, to guarantee effectiveness, I had chosen multiple sources to power my project. The sources used in this project are the internet, people of opinions, the shoe factory, and real-life experiences.

For the easiness of retrieving and understanding of data, the sources will be recorded in different forms such as mind maps, tables, drawings, pictures and last but not least, articles of writing. These forms of presenting data are specifically chosen solely for the reason of the direct highlights on the important points.

The sources are not the solitary factors to be calculated as in the presence of good sources, there will be also the presence of bad sources. The reliability of the sources is tested by multiple sources, observations, logics, professionalized people.

2.1          Background Research

2.1.1              Athlete’s Foot Disease
Athlete foot is a disease which causes scaling, flaking, and itch of affected areas [2], causing the feet to emit unpleasant smells and rots slowly. It is caused by a fungus belonging to a biological family called the Trichophyton. [1] This kind of fungus will grow on the skin and cause cracks and nasty looks on the affected areas.

It is a communicable disease caused by a parasite fungus in the genus Trichophyton, either Trichophyton Rubrum or Trichophyton Mentagrophytes. It is typically transmitted in most environments where people walk barefoot, such as showers, bath houses, and locker rooms. It can also be transmitted by sharing footwear with an infected person, or less commonly, by sharing towels with an infected person. This can be prevented by using your own hygienic properties and not sharing with others. [1]

Promoted by wet, warm, humid conditions, and with all the requirements met in the internal environment of a shoe, the prevention of the athlete's foot can be done by keeping the feet in a dry condition, changing socks often, and a be kept in a hygienic situation all the times.[1]

2.1.2              Shoe Making Process
The shoe making process is divided into two main categories- Parts Production and Assembly Production.

The Parts Production is to prepare the materials for assembly. Mainly focused on cutting and stitching, involving mostly women, separate parts of the shoe are made and will be continued by the assembly production.

The Assembly Production on the other hand involves the assemblage of the shoe, which requires hammering, usage of glue and heavy machine handling. This is where the shoe will be finalized and packaged. [5]

2.1.3              Thermodynamics (Heat Conduction/ Diffusion)
Under the electron microscope, heat is defined as thousands of atoms vibrating with kinetic energy interacting with one another, causing a chain of movement along, which is called conduction. [3]

Equilibriums are maintained in the laws of nature. If there is an imbalance, nature will change it. When hot air is mixed with cold air, hot air will rise will cold air will sink. This is called diffusion where it is an exchange between two substances with different concentration to balance out. Diffusion will not stop until both sides are present with the same amount of inactive atoms and active atoms.

3.0           Application of Information
If unlimited resource is used incorrectly, the goal will still not be achieved. With the collected information, it is required to apply them correctly accordingly to the situation for an effective response.

3.1          My way

Different situations have different types of interpretation and analysis of data. In the personal project, it is common to encounter with critical situations such as facing problems, decision-makings and analysis.

In my ways of applying information, before applying any knowledge on the project, I would first divide my actions into stages accordingly to the IB design cycle which involves Investigate, Design, Plan, Create and Evaluate. These five processes are extremely efficient especially when you are establishing your own project as they highlight the things of what is needed to be paid attention to, acting as a plan, only where it can be applied anywhere, any time.

In decision making situations, I will first investigate the situation by collecting all the information related to the situation. With me understanding and fully aware of the situation now, I will start designing on what I am going to do with each of the given options. After doing that, I will start planning on how am I going to establish my designs of the two given option. Not only that, I will also plan on what I am going to do after completing the design of each options.

With the IB design cycle being a concept, I can manipulate it where evaluation comes before the create process. After planning, I will emphasize and stress on the consequences of making each option, then contrasting the options by their advantages and disadvantages. Evaluating them, I will decide which advantages are more in need to my project and which of the disadvantages is more fatal to my project. Only after that, I will make a conclusion on which option I will choose based on the size of the impacts the option will have on my project. This is where I will proceed to carrying what I’ve plan and designed, taking actions, creating the product.

The process of solving problem is similar to decision makings as it follows the same concept. The difference between them is that there are two evaluation process in here, one for evaluating on which option to choose, and the other one in the end reflecting on why did it went wrong and how so that experience will be achieved and the lesson will be learnt.

3.2          What I’ve Learnt

Due to the constant thoughts on how to apply the information collected, the thoughts on collecting information had also changed where I am trained to think critically and construct questions to get answers to cover different views and perspectives.

For instance, I would have my question constructed so that it covers the views from the benefiter and the views of the worker. Answers are evaluated with the Area of Interactions and impacts of the world where I will be able to see the effects from different angles such as socially, politically, economically, morally, ethically and health.

3.3          Contribution of Criterion D to Personal Project
Application of information had brought me many influences on mindsets, changing how a person thinks and consider different perspectives. It had led me to many new ideas and innovations and also confidence due to the understanding of the topic in a more completed way.
From what I had learnt in school, I gained the ability to apply my knowledge to real-life situation while relating them to the AOI’s. While working and observing in the factory, I had learnt that they produce by orders from companies, with a pre-storage of raw materials. This not only decreases the cost of the shoes due to bulk purchasing, it also allows the factory to produce shoes anytime. However, a large amount of space will be needed for the storage of materials.

Using human ingenuity, the stock can be reduced by getting the correct ration of the different materials needed to manufacture a pair of shoes. This will avoid excess materials being bought which will prevent accumulation of stock hence decreasing inventory space.
Gaining the trust of the workers is also a crucial factor in a successful business; therefore, the safety of the workers must be noted. The factory had taken many procedures such as masks and safety goggles while handling machines to make sure that their workers are safe. However, the workers intake glue at a dangerous rate as it is one of the main components in the shoe-making process thus triggering breathing problems. The workers should be told to wear a mask all the times, nevertheless, isolating the processes involving glue so that the smell wouldn’t spread around the whole factory.

4.0          Achieving the Goal
Everyone has goals, everyone has targets, and however, what really matters is the process itself.  Different people has different definition of what a successful outcome is, thus, it is not the outcome but the process of acquiring the outcome itself that matters the most. One could die trying to survive while one could just surrender. Both have the same outcome, but deep inside, the one who tried died happily knowing that at least he made an effort. His spirit will inspire others and serve as motivation to hang on, which makes him literally immortal due to the remembrance of him and his efforts.

4.1          My Journey
My journey to my goals can be considered with only little problems here and there. The biggest problem I had faced so far is the unavailability for two fans to be inserted due to the shoe designs- one to input air, one to extract. Further research was done and I found out that one fan is already more than enough as it creates ventilation too.

My end product is 70% successful; the 30% was the elimination of the secondary fan. It ended well as it was well planned and executed as me being a man of precautions; I go with the quote “Expect the unexpected,” where I have extra time prepared specially for emergencies.

Besides of that, I understand my topic fully before taking any action, and inquire my sources of information when I am unsure. This reduces the risk of making any unnecessary mistakes which will slow the progress down.

All of these cannot be acquired without hard work as I will not be here without my process. I started by overcoming myself and interacting with new people, inquiring about the usage of the equipment in their shoe factory.

After being denied by quite a number of people, with the determination, alas, I found a shoe factory which approves to teach me the process in shoe making and aid with the creation of my product.

With this, I had to train and prepare myself so that I am ready to be independent and will be able to adapt to the new environment of Ipoh, Perak. While being in the factory, it had taken me practice and hard work to finally learn how to make a shoe, which leads to the creation of the product itself.

4.2          My Product
This is my product, a safety shoe with ventilation specially made for factory use. Its ventilation works by the concept of heat diffusion. Due to the higher density of the particles, the hot air rises while the cold air sinks.
The explanation behind this is that air would be thinner in the colder area whilst air would be thicker in the hotter area. With the rules of diffusion of air, higher pressure will move to the lower pressure area, causing heat to rise. Thus, when the low pressure becomes high, the cold air travels down again.
With the constant input of cold air, it creates a continuous exchange and escape of heat, causing ventilation inside the shoe.

The shoe runs on a 9V battery for longer durability. It is specially designed to be user interactive where the fan will be automatically activated once the foot is in. This works by a push button switch hidden in the base of the shoes, where once the foot is placed in, pressure is transferred to the switch, which finishes the circuit in the shoe.

Looking inside the shoe, no wires or electronics except for the fans will be seen. This is because the circuits and wirings are all planned and organized well, hidden within the base and in the cuttings of the shoe. This reduces the liability of the circuit from being destroyed or damaged by the almighty foot. The durability of the circuits is also increased due to the non-exposed environment to water.

To allow more heat to escape the shoe at once, small holes are made along the stitching of the shoes. With the number of small holes in the shoe, heat can escape evenly and there will be no feeling of heat in one part or uncomforted foot.

4.3          Discussion with my supervisor
After finishing the product and returning from Ipoh, I showed Ms. Ernee my completed shoe. I was happy to see the delightfulness of her face when she saw it. With me and my supervisor having a more independent relationship, she was impressed.

Together, we discussed together about how successful is the product, and she agreed with my 70% scale. She said that overall, the product is quite good, just that it had not met some of its requirements. We also talked about the ways of presenting the product, which I suggested by printing off the information about my product and accompanying it with my shoes. My idea was accepted and the meeting was ended.

I feel lucky to have Ms. Ernee to be my supervisor; she is always giving me support, giving me a sense of direction when I am loss. Her confidence and trust in me had motivated me to push myself harder to do better. I wouldn’t be here with a finished product and a smooth personal progression without her, her help will be forever remembered and indescribable amount of thankfulness.

5.0          Reflecting the Outcome
I had reached the evaluation part of my personal project. Throughout this journey, I had learnt many things that couldn’t just be learned in the school’s classroom. The biggest achievement that I obtained in the completion of this personal project is that I had successfully established and experienced a full independent project of my own interest.

This kind of opportunity is not easy to have as not only it is just a given project, but it also serves as training for our future lives. In the working world, in order to be outstanding, one must be able to identify the problems majority of people are facing and be daring enough to try out new concepts. The risk might be high but the outcome will be greatly rewarding. The personal project had taught me how to carry out the stages to a successful outcome organized and steady.

Not only that, but this personal project had helped me understand more about the Area of Interactions. It is interesting to see how humans had stressed themselves on initiating changes to improve their living styles by creating new inventions or innovations, with either good or bad influences and with these influences, it is even interesting to observe the reactions of the other humans, agreeing to the change or disagreeing to the change, how they are motivated to make their point. This is human ingenuity, the behavior of human, the act of mankind.

By the completion of the personal project, I had experience being involved in the society. I had learnt how to communicate with different people in a different language efficiently as I had successfully transferred my ideas to the workers in the factory using the Cantonese language.

I had realized the importance of social and communication skills in this world and saw how big the differences are when compared to a well-connected person and a normal person. The well-connected one will have less stress and maybe, better results due to his connections with his project related contacts that will be able to help him, giving him more sources.

Throughout my personal project, I have been observing and obtaining the skills of social communication. I had understood how and what are the needs of setting up a business, where you will need to establish a chain of contacts and other business in co-operation to support your own business.

Different parts of the countries have also different views and perspectives of human ingenuity. Although Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur are both capitals of a state, people have different ways of communication and culture among the society.

For instance, the lifestyle of Kuala Lumpur sides to a more competitive life, each individual fighting for his/her own space for survival. Ipoh however, prefers a more peaceful and ordinary life, where it is more quiet. It is fascinating on how humans get influenced by the majorities or social groups of other people with some similarities. If the difference between the societies of different parts of the country is already so big, how different are we from the people in other countries?

Humans, like me, different from other species present on earth, this personal project had highlighted that our determination is the key of transformation and evolution to our quality of living; I had faced quite a number of problems in the process of accomplishing this personal project yet with some thinking and hard work, overcame them by solving and at the same time, learning from it.

Most of all, I had understood that nothing can be achieved easily without hard work, that the amount of time and effort you put in is directly proportional to the results of your work.

Overall, I would rate myself a 6 out of 7 for the completion of the product as the products fulfilled mostly of the specifications except for the number of fans present in a shoe. From my planning and organization, the process of the personal project went quite smoothly too, and credits to that, the deadline was met.
